Do-it-Yourself Prom Hairstyle Instructions

It’s that time again! Time for prom and wedding season and all of the updos and pretty hairstyles that come with it! This is one of the most popular hairstyles on our site that has been getting a lot of attention, so we thought we would give you the instructions that could allow you to create this at-home, with as little as a large barrel curling iron, finishing spray and pins that can be used to pin back the luxurious and flowing locks.

The first element to this hairstyle is to create the curls that are going to cascade down the back. Separate the hair into a bottom and top section and use clips to pin the top section to the head to be styled later. Curl the bottom section, wrapping small and larger pieces of hair around the barrel to obtain fresh curls.

Next, after the bottom of the hair has been curled it is time to create the sleek layer that comes with the top of this style. The front layers of the hair, including the bangs should be combed back. Backcombing a layer of the hair under the top can help to achieve this look and ensure that your hair stays all night long. Smooth with the comb and apply professional finishing spray such as Tigi Bedhead hard head to ensure that the style stays in place. Use pins to secure the sides and top, hiding these pins in the hair.

The curls that were first created can also be pinned, halfway through to create a cascading effect down the back.

This look is perfect for a bold pair of earrings, or a bright prom dress. You are sure to be the belle of the ball with this style.

To finish the style, use a shine spray to create the maximum glamorous effects for the style. You will find that with a little work and the right products, this style can easily be created, at home!

Next, take the ends of the hair that have been pulled back and create three to four large curls from the sections of this hair. These curls are going to be pinned to the updo and can help to disguise any pins that have been placed to secure the hair.

Tip: If you have hair that just does not want to curl, or have fine hair that straightens after any given time, curl as usual and pin the bottom of the curls to the back of the head, creating a style that has staying power!
